Mariame Ouedraogo named 2022 Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholar

Mariame Ouedraogo, a PhD student in the division of epidemiology at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, is among the 13 doctoral students across Canada and around the world chosen as 2022 Scholars of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation.

The foundation trains promising early-career scholars in leadership and provides funding for their research.

"It is an honour to be part of the Foundation's vibrant and diverse community," says Ouedraogo. "I am very excited to embark on this leadership journey and to have this opportunity to develop skills that will enable me to move from research to impact."

As a global health researcher, Ouedraogo is committed to health equity, social justice, and amplifying the voices of underserved and marginalized communities, particularly those from low-income countries.

Her research explores how the armed conflict in Mali impacts reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health, with the long-term goal of informing efforts to address the health needs of conflict-affected women and children. She works under the supervision of Assistant Professor Hilary Brown and Associate Professor Diego Bassani.

At Dalla Lana, she is also involved in research examining provincial COVID-19 vaccination rollout plans from an equity lens.
