Award winners are also invited to carry out their own research project in Germany for six months to a year, and they receive 60,000 euros, which can be used to fund the project and travel.</p> <p>“This is a huge honour. The award is one of the most prestigious international recognitions a scientist can get,” says Radisic, who holds the Canada Research Chair in organ-on-a-chip engineering.</p> <p>A <a href="https://radisiclab.com/">leading expert</a> in bioengineering human tissues and the design of microfluidic chips, Radisic will begin working with Professor Ulrike Nuber of the Technical University of Darmstadt next year at her lab, which focuses on creating disease models from human induced pluripotent stem cells.</p> <p>Together, they will partner with researchers at Charité, the Berlin University of Medicine&nbsp;– one of Europe's largest university hospitals – to develop a vascularized organ-on-a-chip model.</p> <p>“This opportunity will allow me and my colleagues from the Centre for Research and Applications in Fluidic Technologies to build a bridge across the Atlantic and connect with our colleagues from Germany, who have really interesting ideas about the role of endothelial cells and endothelial dysfunction in creating multi-organ failure,” Radisic says.</p> <h3><a href="https://news.engineering.utoronto.ca/professor-milica-radisic-awarded-international-humboldt-research-prize/">Read the Faculty of Applied Science &amp; Engineering story</a></h3> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-source field--type-string field--label-hidden field__item">Engineering</div> <div class="field field--name-field-top-story-hub-page- field--type-boolean field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Top Story (Hub page)</div> <div class="field__item">Off</div> </div> Thu, 10 Aug 2023 14:05:51 +0000 siddiq22 302589 at Martin Revermann awarded Humboldt Research Prize /celebrates/martin-revermann-awarded-humboldt-research-prize <span class="field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden">Martin Revermann awarded Humboldt Research Prize</span> <div class="field field--name-field-awards-type field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/celebrates/awards-type/research-innovation" hreflang="en">Research &amp; Innovation</a></div> </div> <span class="field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden"><span>lanthierj</span></span> <span class="field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden"><time datetime="2022-12-15T14:08:22-05:00" title="Thursday, December 15, 2022 - 14:08" class="datetime">Thu, 12/15/2022 - 14:08</time> </span> <div class="field field--name-field-awards-people field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/celebrates/awards-people/faculty" hreflang="en">Faculty</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-awards-campus field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/celebrates/awards-campus/mississauga" hreflang="en">Mississauga</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-awards-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/6868" hreflang="en">Humboldt Research Prize</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/celebrates/awards-tags/department-historical-studies" hreflang="en">Department of Historical Studies</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-image-orientation field--type-list-string field--label-hidden field__item">landscape</div> <div class="field field--name-field-image field--type-image field--label-hidden field__item"> <img loading="lazy" src="/sites/default/files/media/Revermann%2C-Martin-2021-crop.jpg" width="750" height="500" alt="&quot;&quot;"> </div> <div class="clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item"><p>University of Toronto Mississauga historical studies professor <b>Martin Revermann</b> has received the&nbsp;2022&nbsp;Humboldt Research Prize, which recognizes outstanding senior researchers whose work has a significant impact in their field.</p> <p>Revermann, a former University of Oxford Rhodes Scholar who also received the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.utm.utoronto.ca/vp-research/news/sciences-need-theatre-award-winning-scholar-delivers-excellence-lecture">2021 Desmond Morton Research Excellence Award</a>, specializes in performance criticism and the cultural history of Greek drama, as well as the work of German playwright Bertolt Brecht.&nbsp;</p> <p style="margin-top:16px">Revermann says he plans to use funding from the Humboldt award for&nbsp;an international research group examining how Latin and Greek texts are being translated into modern languages.
